Artificial Intelligence: AfroLeadership–AFRIA Partnership / Governance

(14.01.2022). Following fruitful exchanges and joint operations carried out during 2021, the Francophone Agency for Artificial Intelligence (AFRIA) and AfroLeadership signed a partnership agreement to formalize a high value-added collaboration for the African continent.

The agreement extends over a renewable period of two years. All the provisions of the agreement are detailed across five pages, with the signing dated December 21, 2021. The signatories are Charlie Martial Ngounou, President of AfroLeadership, and Dr. Éric Adja, President of AFRIA. In the spirit of the parties, the objective is to place artificial intelligence and innovative technologies at the service of Africa’s development, within an ethical framework that respects the rights of peoples and human dignity.

AfroLeadership believes that this represents an “imperative need to embrace digital technologies for the achievement of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.”

For its part, AFRIA aims to “disseminate knowledge in the field of sustainable development through artificial intelligence and digital technologies.” Furthermore, the goal is to “facilitate the integration and implementation of this technology by connecting stakeholders (sectors expressing needs and providers of digital and artificial intelligence solutions).”
