Governance & Democracy

Enhancing transparency, accountability and public participation

Our Approach

AfroLeadership works to strengthen democratic governance in Africa by supporting the processes of decentralisation and the modernisation of public administration. The organisation promotes open governance, based on transparency, citizen participation and institutional accountability.

To support its work, AfroLeadership partners with the Xuxxex Group, the developer of SIM_ba, an integrated local public finance management software system currently in use in Cameroon and several other countries in the sub-region. This collaboration provides tangible support for improving public finance management systems and equips local stakeholders with reliable tools to ensure more efficient and transparent administration.

Through its work, AfroLeadership builds the capacity of public sector and civil society actors, facilitates dialogue between citizens and institutions, and supports improvements to public financial management systems. This approach aims to make public policy more accessible, more inclusive and more responsive to citizens’ needs.

Convinced that the quality of governance depends on the interplay between information, engagement and accountability, AfroLeadership works to improve access to public information, encourage effective citizen participation and strengthen accountability mechanisms.

By placing these three dimensions at the heart of its work and drawing on proven technological tools such as SIM_ba, the organisation helps to establish a virtuous cycle of democratic governance, fostering institutions that are more transparent, more accountable and closer to the public.

Strategic Priorities

  • Budgetary transparency : To promote transparency in public finances and support reforms aimed at responsible and inclusive governance.

  • Public participation : Strengthen civic engagement by developing inclusive mechanisms for participation in decision-making processes, particularly at local level.
  • Public accountability : To promote the accountability of public institutions through tools for public monitoring, public policy evaluation and oversight of public action.
