The United States Embassy in Cameroon hosted the launch ceremony of the Fiscal Transparency Innovation Fund Program on October 8, 2022. This program is supported by the U.S. Department of State: Economic and Commercial Affairs. Its objective is to strengthen the capacities of citizens, civil society organizations, local elected officials, and local governance actors for better participation in the budget process, thus promoting transparency at the local level.
AfroLeadership is committed to this goal in 25 municipalities in the regions of the East, Far North, North, Northwest, West, and Southwest as part of the COPB project funded by this program. With a duration of 18 months, the COPB project, with a budget of $94,500, will conclude in March 2024.
Three other CSOs are involved in the implementation of the program: ADEGL in the Northwest and Southwest regions, Mandela Center International in the East region, and LUKMEF Cameroon in the Southwest.
With this funding, AfroLeadership will continue the implementation of the Cameroon Open Participatory Budget (COPB) project, initiated in 2020, which has already produced results in 23 municipalities in the Center, East, West, Littoral, and Southwest regions, with financial support from the French Embassy in Cameroon and the International Budget Partnership (IBP).
As a reminder, fiscal transparency promotes greater government accountability and is an essential element of effective public financial management, helping to strengthen market trust and support economic sustainability and stability.
